The Whitehouse Police Department strives to enhance the quality of life in the Village by providing a safe environment in which to live, work and play. Police Chief Ed Kaplan encourages his staff to provide a friendly yet professional atmosphere. They are committed to working with our residents and to assist in solving problems in the community.
Our Department consists of eight full time officers, seven part-time officers, and a civilian clerk/office assistant. Full time dispatching services are provided by the Lucas County Sheriff's Department by calling 419-213-4977 (dial 9-1-1 in any emergency situation).
Chief
Ed Kaplan's career in law enforcement began in 1973 when he was hired as a guard
at the Lucas County Jail in Toledo. He enrolled at the Police Academy in the
fall of 1973 and was a member of the first graduating class from the Criminal
Justice Training Center. After graduation, he was assigned to the Lucas County
Sheriff's Department Road Patrol and during that time became familiar with the
Whitehouse area. In 1975 Chief Kaplan joined the Whitehouse Police Department.
He worked as a Patrolman for 19 years, before being promoted to Sergeant and
eventually Chief in 2006.
Chief Kaplan and his wife, Sue, along with their two children, Jill and Derek, have lived in the Village since 1975. He is the proud grandfather of Katie, one year old daughter of Jill and her husband, Tom Galmarini.
The Village of Whitehouse is under the jurisdiction of the Maumee Municipal Court. All cases involving adults are filed at the Maumee Municipal Court located at 400 Conant Street, Maumee, and all incidents involving juveniles are filed at the Lucas County Juvenile Court, 1801 Spielbusch Avenue in Toledo.
